Inveraray Castle

Filtrex are delighted to be the Design and Build team for a wood chip drying project for the Duke of Argyll. The client has a large amount of forest with large amounts of waste wood which had little value. By drying and chipping the wood an increase in value of more than 5 fold was possible.

The project involved utilising existing wood supply and biomass boiler heat to dry wood chip and supply dry fuel for the boilers. The drying table was specified to reduce the water content of the wood chip by using a hot air supply and agitating the wood chip. The hot air was supplied by the existing remote biomass boilers. These boilers heat the castle. However, the boiler had plenty of unused heat. A control system was designed by Filtrex to allow the castle to have priority over the wood chip drying while the wood chip drying would take the leftover heat produced.
